Piraeus, with its three natural harbors, became the arrivals area of the travellers of the 17th century, during a time when in Europe there was a notable increase in the Europeans’ interests regarding ancient Greek civilization; Those travellers have recorded their impressions, whether in texts of great significance or maps and sketches, attributing mythical status to Piraeus and accentuating its natural, inimitable Mediterranean beauty.
In this tribute edition, Militos Editions has compiled what we hope is a concise and coprehensive corpus of travellers’ texts and rare engravings, the original of which can be found scattered across various sources, many times non-accessible to the public.
