PERA THE CROSSROADS OF CONSTANTINOPLE

Pera, the “area beyond the city”, a purely European city, the affluent crossroads of the Propontis, through a diachronic retrospect culminating in the glorious era of the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, which led, after the reformation of Tanzimat, to the dislocation of the ruling class. Through the vividness of the rare photographs we are presented with the modern picture of the city, with its abandoned, eclectic buildings bearing the stamp of their illustrious past.
